One more turn

I chose 'One More Turn' to reflect that feeling when you are totally absorbed by a game and just don't want to stop. I intend to supplement text reviews with videos.

Like many gamers, I feel that review sites don't do a good enough job catering to our needs. This website is intended to provide in depth reviews of games that I play, and to serve as a gathering point for my myriad thoughts on various games. In my view, most review sites, whether due to deadlines or financial pressure, don't take the time to really get into a game, to explore the ins and outs and come to a balanced conclusion. Their reviews are heavily weighted by first impressions (like most things in life) but considering the increasing number and variety AND complexity of games out there (not least of all in the strategy genre, which is my favourite) I believe this to be a disservice. So, the intent here is to do reviews "properly".

The plan therefore is to spend no less than 50 hrs in a computer game, and no fewer than 5 playthroughs of a tabletop game, before giving it a full review. That should be more than enough time to move past any initial gloss or dross, and explore how the game really is. Ofcourse, I will mention first impressions, but follow these up with secondary impressions etc.

Basically, games that create a stellar first impression often seem to get various accolades, yet upon going further than scratching the surface, several flaws present themselves, which are overshadowed by the brilliance of the opening. The opposite is also true, whereby launch hiccups can put a game in a bad light, forever! The latter is somewhat less forgivable I think.

Also, by playing a game for so long, it allows for Developer updates and changes, so reviews here should reflect a more rounded game, not the first impressions. I'm not being paid by anyone and am following no deadlines, so I am beholden to no-one and nothing. Therefore, what I write will be the considered thoughts of someone who truly loves strategy games.
